Lyrical Analysis of...
Back to the Past (avg end time at 3:16)
- As I walk in the door of my trailer park home/
- I notice something, out of the norm/
- It's a letter on my desk, not what I adorn/
- Open it up and the sadness gets going/
- It's from mama, she wanna know what I'm doing/
- It basically said/
- "Hey honey I've been zooming/
- I just need some soothing/
- So I wrote you a letter/
- I ain't fooling, hope this is better/
- I've just been watching a little bit of Spetter/
- I'm getting tired, my life is getting bitter/
- My trailer's full of litter, and my daughter/
- I need you wit' her/
- It's my cancer, it's startin' to slither/
- I'm startin' to wither/
- And my life is starting to flicker/
- I'm getting a lot sicker"/
- The whole thing made me shiver/
- Should I kick 'er 'cause it's getting quicker/
- Was it her chitter? She wasn't a bidder/
- She didn't plead, but her life sure shit 'er/
- And I knew it would get 'er/
- But I just watched her life like a sliver/
- She was a pain, but I had to consider/
- I wasn't a dither/
- I couldn't stick 'er wit' glitter/
- Make it all go away but it only got thicker/
- It all flowed like a river/
- It had that sorta vigor/
- This caused me to trigger/
- I would go/
- As I arrived at the home/
- I saw mama on the couch/
- She wasn't dead though/
- She only passed out/
- I watched as her life turned as dark as stout/
- Me and her daughter were the only crowd/
- And I knew she could not go throughout/
- Her death was yelling too loud/
- Finally, I heard a sound/
- She said "I love you."/
- Next there was blood pouring out her mouth/
- I said "Come on we gotta go now"/
- And as I walk out the door, she started to shout/
- Screamin' in my arms, six years old/
- Then I vowed, I would become bold/
- Remember what my mama told/
- She was only thirty six years old/
- But to me, she was still gold/
- We had some fights, they grew pretty cold/
- But then I left and her home grew mold/
- Couldn't help herself, couldn't lift a toe/
- Although she coulda used Skoal/
- Maybe then her chest wouldn't have a hole/
- If she wasn't such a miserable soul/
- Her love mattered but now, something was twofold/
- I had to help her daughter, my sis, make her gold/
- That'll be hard though/
- Because she was exposed/
- To mama's life that was deposed/
- And now she's with me so/
- Ima make her gold/
- My mama once told/
- "If you grow old/
- That means you're rich you know."/
- So I want my life to flow/
- To become full of money/
- Not living like a goat/
- I arrive at my home/
- I walk inside and all of a sudden/
- Someone cut the lights/
- It was dark, and it was night/
- I heard a scream, I knew who it was by/
- It was my little sis, I then knew she died/
- I burst out the fight/
- Out of sight/
- I was on my way to freedom tonight/
- The next day or so I wake up/
- To find myself in the street, in the cold/
- I get up, hear "Sup?"/
- I turn around, ready to punch/
- He was just sitting down eating his lunch/
- He said "I heard the scream"/
- He introduced himself/
- His name was Dre/
- "I heard your battle yesterday"/
- There was nothing I could say/
- Dre said/
- "Today was my day but I wanna take you with me/
- What do you say?"/
- What did he mean it was his day?/
- He took me to the studio, we started making songs/
- We were pretty strong/
- Almost like Kong/
- We became successful/
- We were pretty useful/
- And this one song, to me it was gold/
- I only remember what my mama told/
- That song was the greatest I ever sold/
- Luckily, I grew old/
- I was happy, this more than twofold/
- And as I lay in my bed/
- I start seeing white/
- Finally, after all my life was tight/
- But now, I was joining mama tonight/
- As the white gets bigger I start to see a gate/
- It's golden, no mistake/
- And as it opened up/
- There was my mama and sis/
- I left behind all the trauma and dis/
- I knew I was safe 'cause I had this/
- I walked through the gate/
- It was my final fate
