  10. to and from you crack a smile for the sake of your kids
  11. but the smile cracks because you know that they're too young to
  12. comprehend
  13. why it's in their best interest to go to a school so far away
  14. to obtain educational opportunities that just weren't put in their way
  15.  
  16. want to take up soccer; what's a net worth to their game?
  17. constantly prioritizing keeps making it hard to refrain
  18. from more enticing ways that promise to maybe lessen their pain
  19. lessons are stained with realizations the end goal's so far away
  20. someone tell them leave the bleachers, mom and dad their only leaders
  21. please tell them that you believe in their abilities as winners
  22. teacher, cheater, pumpkin eater
  23. preacher, speaker, teaser, you're not free of culpability either
  24.  
  25. working 5 to 9, working overtime.
  26. Only time you see your kids is when you're telling them goodnight.
  27. so hard to be calm when exposure to the pain cuts like a knife
  28. you want to scream but your composure is what gets you through this
  29. life.
  30. kids wanna look up to you but there's nothing to look at
  31. remainders of a hero that burned too soon to the relapse
  32. a failure to yourself sure, but you'll always be heroic
  33. because even under all the pressure, you managed to
  34. save them from the catastrophic.

  37. where the center of attention is severity of debt we're in
  38. treat life as cards we're dealt with a mentality of deal with it
  39. it's not as hard if we believe that we can interfere within
  40. And they ask why we're angry.
  41. And they ask why we can't make it.
  42. but when you look at where we started
  43. then it's obvious that we've made it.
  44. we've made it controversial, we've made it universal
  45. sensation to all of you
  46. from our point of view, unattainable is understandable

  48. we take the blame before they even ask us for our name
  49. Twenty something years later and we're still fighting for our place
  50. deal with mass incarceration
  51. evading the deportations
  52. live with discrimination
  53. and poverty within our nation
  54.  
  55. resignation clashes with a strong will to survive
  56. family relations will of course cause our strength to revive
  57. we're prepared to ride; we've crashed every time we tried to drive
  58. but hold on to your seat belts kids, restored hope has just arrived
  59.  
  60. we must remain hopeful for ourselves and our kids
  61. always advance a little with each generation.
  62. my parents made my life possible, and I will do my best to continue
