Lyrical Analysis of...
Calling from the Cosmos
- INTRO [SPOKEN]
- Psshht Is anyone there?
- Psssht can anyone hear me?
- There's been an accident,
- We hit an asteroid
- The fuel tank is completely shot,
- The hull is in critical condition,
- The thrusters are working at 50% capacity
- And oxygen levels are dangerously low
- We're completely off course,
- We have no way of stabilising,
- No way of knowing where we are
- No way of getting back to Earth...
- Spiraling aimlessly through the infinite cosmos,
- Compiling memories of what seem like distant ghosts,
- They reach out to me and confront my reservations
- When the kids ask where's daddy going?
- Daddy's going on vacation
- Back before you know, so look after Mommy,
- Behave, brush your teeth and help her with the clean laundry,
- You guys complete me, you mean the world and more,
- Maybe if you're lucky i'll fetch you a gift from the lunar store,
- How about it honey? Mine you a diamond out of lunar ore
- Finding time to rhyme is the comfort ive been looking for
- Not gonna lie, finding motivation is breaking me,
- Tumbling through the abyss thinking why has God forsaken me?
- If God exists then why has he put me on this path?
- To venture into blackness without ever looking back,
- And be enveloped by the vastness that seeps through every crack,
- For lack of a better word, I'm well and truly fucked,
- Is it so absurd to ask for a little bit of luck?
- Enough is enough its time to face up to reality,
- Half the crew's dead and there's no fucking gravity,
- Believe me when I say the novelty wears off quick,
- When you can't even control what comes out of ya dick
- Tick tick tock, the clock never stops, its the only constant,
- More chance of the Catholic church turning Protestant
- Than getting back to that rock called Earth to see my sons,
- And the sums just dont add up, and i'm pretty close to giving up,
- Im stuck in a rut and the thought of living ain't enticing,
- Need to suck up these negative thoughts like a Dyson,
- Got no time to be distraught when im wrestling with a bison,
- Get that bitch in a headlock and poke his eyes til they sting,
- Need to get ontop, need to take affirmative action,
- Drop down to the cargo hold and take note of rations
- Okay looks like there's enough for a week two,
- Providing this ship doesn't chew me up like spacegoo,
- But now i've got a grip and i'm clinging on like superglue,
- Time to devise a plan whilst I leave you in this interlude
- Right i'm back let me tell you what I got so far,
- See that asteroid belt next to that star?
- Well if I power up the reserves maybe we could make it,
- 50:50 chance but best believe that i'll take it,
- If we can just intercept the gravitational pull,
- Then lets just say our cup's not half empty but half full,
- And im not trying to pull the wool over your eyes,
- If we all should die, it would come as no surprise,
- But right now we have no other option,
- When we're looking down the barrel of a loaded shotgun,
- We've got two choices...
- Get our heads blown off or dig deep and raise our voices
- But I still sense an air of reservation
- One crew members asks "what if there's complications?"
- I know the task we face together is formidable
- But the place we're in right now is fucking inhospitable,
- So stop mucking around like its a tough a decision,
- And join reality so we can complete this mission.
