Lyrical Analysis of...
I Found Me
- I've always wondered what it means to be white.
- My whole life I've felt I wasn't getting it right.
- My parents were never pronounced husband and wife,
- and I've never known how it felt to be tucked in at night.
- My mother never read to me, she kept no books on the shelf,
- I couldn't wait to go to school so I could learn to read to myself.
- I also got to thinking, why wasn't my dad there?
- He probably would've been if my mother never had an affair.
- I won't get into that, that's another story,
- rather ramble on how I felt unfit for the caucasian category.
- I remember buying my clothes from the thrift,
- So I grew up resenting those draped in Abercrombie &Fitch.
- Everyone suggests I've been subject to opportunity,
- but unfortunately that is a concept that is new to me.
- I'm from Houston, Texas, where they chop and screw the beat
- I grew up struggling next to my community,
- but my community looks to me with scrutiny.
