Lyrical Analysis of...

Spit the Real Truth

  1. VERSE 1:
  2. The mainstream’s filled with these spineless hacks,
  3. thinking they’re so macho with their mindless raps,
  4. their topics are weak and their rhymes are whack,
  5. thinking they murder the beat on a violent track,
  6. overused crap about their bitches and hoes,
  7. subject matter’s all about the riches and dough,
  8. the underground is filled with the sickest of flows,
  9. when I blow up I’ll spit it real, these critics’ll know,
  10. so many problems with all our communities,
  11. but they’re overlooked in rap as far as you can see,
  12. real artists blow up and they forget their roots,
  13. and they have a tendency to always stretch the truth,
  14. thinking it’s playing cool, they don’t stay in school,
  15. and it’s all good until they go and spray a tool,
  16. and it ain’t cool when a small and little kid dies,
  17. and the middle of guns and in the middle of lies so
  18.
  19. HOOK:
  20. Sing with me, sing for the year,
  21. sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
  22. sing with me, just for today,
  23. maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
  24.
  25. VERSE 2:
  26. No wonder there’s homophobes and misogynists,
  27. ‘cuz they say “shoot a fag” and then “sock a bitch”,
  28. and “smack a hoe”, this is common, oppressive,
  29. and promoted, what about a positive message,
  30. ‘cuz most of rap’s buyers are teens and rebellious,
  31. so I’m speaking to y’all because you sell ‘em this,
  32. telling ‘em to go out and blast off, kill a gangsta,
  33. and squeeze automatics after they fill the chamber,
  34. and disrespect their women, beat their girlfriends,
  35. ‘till a young influenced teen’s on the street in whirlwinds,
  36. ‘cuz he got told that he didn’t have enough street cred,
  37. sometimes they go in alive but they then leave dead,
  38. and humans bleed red and blue, and it’s insane,
  39. ‘cuz they choose colors of Bloods and Crips in gangs,
  40. and it sounds dramatic, but it happens everyday,
  41. drug induced teens hear killing and go renegade,
  42. and shoot off with vodka after whole bottles,
  43. I know you do your thing, but be a role model,
  44. sometimes a beef erupts like BIG and Pac Shakur,
  45. bang bang bang and they lay across the floor,
  46. and now it’s not just a feud, they wanna win the battle,
  47. and their bandwagon groupies, they jump in the saddle,
  48. and support ‘em until they see that it’s just music,
  49. but somebody goes out and they just must lose it,
  50. don’t believe me? Look at L, Pac, Big, and Proof,
  51. Bugz, Kadafi, and Slim, you’ve gotta spit the truth,
  52. Scott La Rock, Mac Dre, and Jam Master Jay,
  53. how does it make you feel that they’ve passed away? C’mon just
  54.
  55. HOOK:
  56. Sing with me, sing for the year,
  57. sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
  58. sing with me, just for today,
  59. maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
  60.
  61. VERSE 3:
  62. Rappers complain about this, but they turn around,
  63. and talk about houses that they’ve burned to grounds,
  64. and all the bodies they’ve laid, it ain’t subliminal,
  65. it ain’t cool to be a disruption and a criminal,
  66. and kids from the streets, it’s their environment,
  67. they grow up in cycles of poverty and violence,
  68. and think that selling drugs is the only real way out,
  69. so they wait a while until all their deals play out,
  70. I understand they need to go out and pay the bills,
  71. but remember how rappers always say “staying real”,
  72. they live in mansions with pools, communities gated,
  73. twenty miles from ghettoes, but they keep on saying it,
  74. this rap game’s tainted, who’s villain, who’s cop,
  75. it ain’t a question about who’s staying real and who’s not,
  76. ‘cuz people still remember thugs killing Tupac,
  77. ‘cuz he never hid the truth, was always spilling the rock,
  78. fake rappers know who they are, and I ain’t saying names,
  79. but I’m tryna address issues, I ain’t playing games,
  80. kids, they find it an outlet and need to channel their anger,
  81. but their frustration shouldn’t make their lives in danger,
  82. sorry to stratch a broken record, it’s hot and aggressive,
  83. but these serious problems need to be brought to attention,
  84. so send a positive message, make sure these kids can feel you,
  85. never forget your roots and spit the real truth and
  86.
  87. HOOK:
  88. Sing with me, sing for the year,
  89. sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
  90. sing with me, just for today,
  91. maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
