Lyrical Analysis of...
Spit the Real Truth
- VERSE 1:
 - The mainstream’s filled with these spineless hacks,
 - thinking they’re so macho with their mindless raps,
 - their topics are weak and their rhymes are whack,
 - thinking they murder the beat on a violent track,
 - overused crap about their bitches and hoes,
 - subject matter’s all about the riches and dough,
 - the underground is filled with the sickest of flows,
 - when I blow up I’ll spit it real, these critics’ll know,
 - so many problems with all our communities,
 - but they’re overlooked in rap as far as you can see,
 - real artists blow up and they forget their roots,
 - and they have a tendency to always stretch the truth,
 - thinking it’s playing cool, they don’t stay in school,
 - and it’s all good until they go and spray a tool,
 - and it ain’t cool when a small and little kid dies,
 - and the middle of guns and in the middle of lies so
 - HOOK:
 - Sing with me, sing for the year,
 - sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
 - sing with me, just for today,
 - maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
 - VERSE 2:
 - No wonder there’s homophobes and misogynists,
 - ‘cuz they say “shoot a fag” and then “sock a bitch”,
 - and “smack a hoe”, this is common, oppressive,
 - and promoted, what about a positive message,
 - ‘cuz most of rap’s buyers are teens and rebellious,
 - so I’m speaking to y’all because you sell ‘em this,
 - telling ‘em to go out and blast off, kill a gangsta,
 - and squeeze automatics after they fill the chamber,
 - and disrespect their women, beat their girlfriends,
 - ‘till a young influenced teen’s on the street in whirlwinds,
 - ‘cuz he got told that he didn’t have enough street cred,
 - sometimes they go in alive but they then leave dead,
 - and humans bleed red and blue, and it’s insane,
 - ‘cuz they choose colors of Bloods and Crips in gangs,
 - and it sounds dramatic, but it happens everyday,
 - drug induced teens hear killing and go renegade,
 - and shoot off with vodka after whole bottles,
 - I know you do your thing, but be a role model,
 - sometimes a beef erupts like BIG and Pac Shakur,
 - bang bang bang and they lay across the floor,
 - and now it’s not just a feud, they wanna win the battle,
 - and their bandwagon groupies, they jump in the saddle,
 - and support ‘em until they see that it’s just music,
 - but somebody goes out and they just must lose it,
 - don’t believe me? Look at L, Pac, Big, and Proof,
 - Bugz, Kadafi, and Slim, you’ve gotta spit the truth,
 - Scott La Rock, Mac Dre, and Jam Master Jay,
 - how does it make you feel that they’ve passed away? C’mon just
 - HOOK:
 - Sing with me, sing for the year,
 - sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
 - sing with me, just for today,
 - maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
 - VERSE 3:
 - Rappers complain about this, but they turn around,
 - and talk about houses that they’ve burned to grounds,
 - and all the bodies they’ve laid, it ain’t subliminal,
 - it ain’t cool to be a disruption and a criminal,
 - and kids from the streets, it’s their environment,
 - they grow up in cycles of poverty and violence,
 - and think that selling drugs is the only real way out,
 - so they wait a while until all their deals play out,
 - I understand they need to go out and pay the bills,
 - but remember how rappers always say “staying real”,
 - they live in mansions with pools, communities gated,
 - twenty miles from ghettoes, but they keep on saying it,
 - this rap game’s tainted, who’s villain, who’s cop,
 - it ain’t a question about who’s staying real and who’s not,
 - ‘cuz people still remember thugs killing Tupac,
 - ‘cuz he never hid the truth, was always spilling the rock,
 - fake rappers know who they are, and I ain’t saying names,
 - but I’m tryna address issues, I ain’t playing games,
 - kids, they find it an outlet and need to channel their anger,
 - but their frustration shouldn’t make their lives in danger,
 - sorry to stratch a broken record, it’s hot and aggressive,
 - but these serious problems need to be brought to attention,
 - so send a positive message, make sure these kids can feel you,
 - never forget your roots and spit the real truth and
 - HOOK:
 - Sing with me, sing for the year,
 - sing for the laughter, sing for the tear,
 - sing with me, just for today,
 - maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
