Lyrical Analysis of...
Devil Inside
- Verse 1
- thought I was on the right path every step I was takin,
- who knew that these steps would just lead me closer to satan,
- every smile I was faking, every promise was breaking,
- I hate to rhyme a word twice, my soul was his for the TAKING,
- I tried to live life on a righteous basis,
- until I was approached by a man who's head faceless
- he told me to take this, his tone was tasteless,
- he gave me a knife, offered me a new preposition on life,
- Slit your hand, sign this in blood,
- admit that you deny the one above,
- scream at the heavens you reject his love,
- the greed inside my soul gave me shove,
- so I took the knife and slit my hand right through the glove,
- I know that this sounds mental,
- words forming in the brain then coming out my dental,
- flawless and gentle, his help was fundamental,
- his presence detrimental, my mind is now his temple.
- Verse 2
- I wish it was simple, but now it's like we're infused,
- I tried to drown the voices with the drugs that I've used
- I spent my whole life getting hurt and abused
- didn't want to turn from God, but I'm the child he refused,
- Can't even count, how many times I prayed for his help,
- But God must have been busy, cause he failed to reach out,
- then there was nobody else, so I let out a shout
- so loud the Devil had to come and see me for himself
- he understood how I felt, he felt the pain I was delt,
- cast out of heaven, man that pain, it speaks for itself,
- not about the fame or the wealth,
- so far gone I don't think can ever free myself.
