Lyrical Analysis of...

anger

  1. Not from this anger, anticlimax after
  2. Refusal struck her loin and the lame flower
  3. Bent like a beast to lap the singular floods
  4. In a land strapped by hunger
  5. Shall she receive a bellyful of weeds
  6. And bear those tendril hands I touch across
  7. The agonized, two seas.
  8. Behind my head a square of sky sags over
  9. The circular smile tossed from lover to lover
  10. And the golden ball spins out of the skies;
  11. Not from this anger after
  12. Refusal struck like a bell under water
  13. Shall her smile breed that mouth, behind the mirror,
  14. That burns along my eyes. Know, O dear readers, that the medicine of a disease is to remove the
  15. root cause of that disease. Isa (Jesus Christ) peace be upon him
  16. was once asked: 'What thing is difficult?' He said: 'God's wrath.'
  17. Prophet Yahya (John the Baptist) peace be upon him then asked:
  18. 'What thing takes near the wrath of God?' He said:'Anger'. Yahya
  19. peace be upon him asked him:'What thing grows and increases anger?'
  20. Isa peace be upon him said:'Pride, prestige, hope for honour and
  21. haughtiness'
  22.
  23. The causes which cause anger to grow are self conceit, self praise,
  24. jests and ridicule, argument, treachery, too much greed for too much
  25. wealth and name and fame. If these evils are united in a person, his
  26. conduct becomes bad and he cannot escape anger.
  27.
  28. So these things should be removed by their opposites. Self praise is
  29. to be removed by modesty. Pride is to be removed by one's own origin
  30. and birth, greed is to be removed by remaining satisfied with
  31. necessary things, and miserliness by charity.
  32.
  33. The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'A strong man is not
  34. he who defeats his adversary by wrestling, but a strong man is he who
  35. controls himself at the time of anger.'
  36.
  37. We are describing below the medicines of anger after one gets angry.
  38. The medicine is a mixture of knowledge and action. The medicine based
  39. on knowledge is of six kinds:it boils within
  40. slowly poisoning all that it touches
  41. corrupting all that is within
  42. it has now reached a new level
  43. a level I never thought existed
  44. for it has boiled over everything
  45. everything I have
  46. everything I’ve worked to keep
  47. for I am now totally corrupted
  48. drowning in poison
  49. the poison of my life
  50. the poison you all help create
  51. the poison that has been growing within me
  52. anger
  53. anger is that poison
  54. anger is the poison within
  55. the thing that is eating me alive
  56. eating me from within
  57. corrupting every cell of me
  58. turning me in to a corruption
  59. for now I am just a corruption
  60. corruption... Anger is a virus
  61. That needs not even air
  62. To propagate contagion
  63. Whenever it is shared.
  64.
  65. Anger can't be placed in quarantine
  66. To contain its vicious spread
  67. For anger feeds upon itself
  68. And burns a flaming red.
  69.
  70. Anger is all consuming
  71. Anger does not desist
  72. From destroying sensibilites
  73. In that haze of its red mist.
