Lyrical Analysis of...

Dear Parents

  1. Dear parents, if you keep guarding us from the wrong how will we learn the
  2. right? If you keep us from the things that might make us sad or offended
  3. how will we learn how to fight? You see it's not how we make mistakes,
  4. it's about how we correct them that define us. The reality is people mess up.
  5. Don't let one mistake ruin a beautiful thing. If you don't let us off our leashes
  6. how are we supposed to know that it is okay to mess up... right now when
  7. we mess up we feel like failures because of how you respond to it and how
  8. you raised us.
  9. The past is where you made your mistake and learned your lessons... the
  10. future is where you apply the lesson... my parents never taught me this. I
  11. taught myself. The question is, how are we supposed to apply the lesson if
  12. you never let us do things that might lead to those same mistakes again....
  13. it's a chance for redemption whether you see it that way or not. Success
  14. does not consist in never making mistakes, but in never making the same
  15. one a second time.
  16. I remember someone once told me to not carry my mistakes around with
  17. me but to place them underneath my feet and use them as stepping stones.
  18. To the kids reading this: don't let your past dictate who you are, let it be a
  19. lesson that strengthens who you become. Parents take no offense to this
  20. but people say that our best teachers are our parents... well, that's a lie.
  21. Our best teacher is our last mistake. Don't try to come up here and try to
  22. deny the things I have said, cause you need to be more accepting of who
  23. your kids are and less concerned about what society will think of them.
  24. If you teach them to grow up in such a way that society will accept them
  25. then I guess you're teaching them that they need to be perfect in which
  26. case they would end up becoming fake because nobody's perfect and no
  27. ever will be. The world is messed up right now because the ones before
  28. were raised to fit in the puzzle.
  29. We need to be the generation that takes the responsibility to make the
  30. world right again. I am tired of living in a fake world with fake people in
  31. which... people who speak the truth get out casted or get locked up
  32. because of their disruptions to society because they stand for what is right.
  33. I don't know about you but I wanna be on the side that takes the fight and
  34. chooses the right. What about you?
