Lyrical Analysis of...
Dear Parents
- Dear parents, if you keep guarding us from the wrong how will we learn the
- right? If you keep us from the things that might make us sad or offended
- how will we learn how to fight? You see it's not how we make mistakes,
- it's about how we correct them that define us. The reality is people mess up.
- Don't let one mistake ruin a beautiful thing. If you don't let us off our leashes
- how are we supposed to know that it is okay to mess up... right now when
- we mess up we feel like failures because of how you respond to it and how
- you raised us.
- The past is where you made your mistake and learned your lessons... the
- future is where you apply the lesson... my parents never taught me this. I
- taught myself. The question is, how are we supposed to apply the lesson if
- you never let us do things that might lead to those same mistakes again....
- it's a chance for redemption whether you see it that way or not. Success
- does not consist in never making mistakes, but in never making the same
- one a second time.
- I remember someone once told me to not carry my mistakes around with
- me but to place them underneath my feet and use them as stepping stones.
- To the kids reading this: don't let your past dictate who you are, let it be a
- lesson that strengthens who you become. Parents take no offense to this
- but people say that our best teachers are our parents... well, that's a lie.
- Our best teacher is our last mistake. Don't try to come up here and try to
- deny the things I have said, cause you need to be more accepting of who
- your kids are and less concerned about what society will think of them.
- If you teach them to grow up in such a way that society will accept them
- then I guess you're teaching them that they need to be perfect in which
- case they would end up becoming fake because nobody's perfect and no
- ever will be. The world is messed up right now because the ones before
- were raised to fit in the puzzle.
- We need to be the generation that takes the responsibility to make the
- world right again. I am tired of living in a fake world with fake people in
- which... people who speak the truth get out casted or get locked up
- because of their disruptions to society because they stand for what is right.
- I don't know about you but I wanna be on the side that takes the fight and
- chooses the right. What about you?
