Lyrical Analysis of...
A New Essence: A Different Presence
- Everyday it's such a twisted life, and I'm stressin',
- Mama's bitchin' in the kitchen, makes it more depressin',
- and try to talk to my father? Guess I learned my lesson,
- thought I was a preacher and a leader, my confession,
- is that I used to sit and vibe to rap songs, essence,
- was in the air when I heard 'em, they gave me presence,
- next thing I had to do was change my whole attitude,
- blamin' the world for problems "that's why they're mad at you",
- and that's what I would say, I was growin' estranged,
- from everybody, my friends, my family, going insane,
- used to think I was Superman, flowin' through my veins,
- little did I know the path I paved went to the lowest lane,
- but how the hell was I supposed to react to memories,
- of Mama cursin' because her father drank the Hennessy,
- went up through the system, different lives, economies,
- from comfortable middle class to damn near poverty,
- I've seen it all, I thought that would help me as a lyricist,
- or maybe as a person, a lesson learning experience,
- instead I got caught up with the conspiracy theorists,
- eventually left though I still see 'em through a pyramid,
- alter egos, inner conflicts, I was double spirited,
- hated both my parents, didn't need their appearances,
- but hell, y'all know the story, I was frozen and cold,
- with no straight paths, a fork in the road, in my soul,
- was a knife, my life was trife with strife, 'till I found it,
- this thing called "hip hop" and I was just astounded,
- I was purely astonished, and it made me the hardest,
- I fought through all my struggles, a wide range of artists,
- made me who I am today, and I hope to be a model,
- for people to follow, not a hollow man with a bottle,
- and even though it's still hard, I'll put the fight aside,
- and chill and relax, I think I found the brighter side,
- I mighta died without this music, and this new presence,
- would never be the same without hip hop's essence
