Lyrical Analysis of...
“Imperfect (Original)” by Patches)
- Theme: I've got issues, but there's good in them
- Verse 1: I take longer to process things
- Imperfect areas, causing hysteria
- Start with what I hear, and the speed that it's carried up
- Slower by a smidgen than letters from pigeons
- But jokes aside, most would find, I work with what I'm given
- It takes some hammering to get past the stammering
- No need for dirty laundry when this defect is hampering
- The process is slow, so some may say why fight it
- To them I say to share the mind that's hiding behind it
- To ensure my survival, to add allure on arrival,
- I learned from mistakes, so I'm greeted by kind folk
- To put it in black and white, my third eye has active sight
- That aids me in spotting a bad time's acolyte
- But as a consequence, I'm shockingly hesitant
- Of trying something new since I refuse to be negligent
- These "so called" issues, someone blissful may gift you
- Everything has value if it's not proven misused
- Chorus:
- There's good inside of all of us but not one man is perfect
- I fall into that camp, but I still pass on the verdict
- (Ah ah ahhhh)
- Of what needs to be fixed in my still imperfect person
- By learning what I'm worth to instill a perfect version
- (Ah ah ahhhh)
- I'm servant to the masses, Martin Luther's view of Catholics,
- So let's educate each other while we both employ our passions
- (Ah ah ahhhh)
- I'll learn with open ears, sometimes more than I appear
- But I'll do the best my foolishness allows me through the years
- Verse 2:
- Slow processing, some would link to a mind not worth fostering
- But I've made peace with that, on to opposite offerings
- Actually, it's not far off, as it causes pondering
- Pondering to offer up a coin at a pond or spring
- Begging for knowledge of how to talk to girls in public
- A "hi" would quite suffice, but the problem is the subjects
- Unless games or anime are suddenly on the uptick
- I've already mentioned how it takes more time to learn
- For me to understand about any topic that's concerned
- How am I to learn when I possess no experience
- And I have not a mentor to compare what I do against
- I am but a child who is maddened by his loneliness
- And those who know my suffering are those who have known me best
- How cliche that I sound like I need love to feel complete
- But to feel the love of someone is a preliminary feat
- But I'll do the best my foolishness allows me through the years
- Verse 3:
- I can't say if others would perceive this as a flaw or not
- But with how it affects my work, I'm shocked I near forgot
- I relentlessly dissect the songs and things that I created
- Whether it's my own or not, no, this can't be debated
- And I work until I break at college, I'm not talking rest
- I'm at the point where eighties are a thing that I detest
- With every test, I'm angered if I don't get the best
- And this compulsion halts the thought of, "eh, onto the next"
- In this way of thinking, it feels as if I've been vexed
- I work six hours in a day, that's no curse, that's a hex
- Am I a workaholic, or just seeing what's in front of me
- Though it's not something I rap about, I still really want money
- I need luck for luxury, under penalty of perjury
- My canvas is put under the pen like I'm commencing surgery
- Since I sew success on my current college campus
- The future will decide the worth of carving my own canvas
