Lyrical Analysis of...
The great gatsby
- it started five years ago
- when an officer in nice uniform started up the stairs
- it was love at first sight oh it changed our lives
- and then came the war and the disheartened goodbye sighs
- now the wars done he got the honours
- no calls through the fall yeah he didn't come
- and then a got some letter that made me glum
- said he was poor and i should endure
- but who would want me when I'm rot and arched
- i made a decision that shaped my fate
- i married tom buchanan a major polo player
- he was a cheat but he got the sweet cash
- whats a girl to do in this unfair age spare tolerate
- and then he came back on some scheduled tea
- with nick my sneaky cousin and a garden for me
- he had a nice mansion and the beautiful dyed shirts
- it was then as i cried i knew i had made a mistake
- we danced and laughed the past echoed in his scent
- and i think i fell in love again with this
- strange mysterious officer with the name
- gatsby the great
- but gatsby wanted too much
- said i should tell tom i never loved him
- but of course i did he is my husband for a reason
- but i agreed and only if nick was there
- so they came for fancy lunch what a successful disaster
- and gatsby gave the signal but i couldn't
- i was at a tight corner fighting pressure
- and then we were in new york
- passing by dr t.j eckleburg as tom stopped for gas
- at wilsons place his favourite
- and the sun showed us what its like in hell
- and then i saw gatsby for who he really was
- a fake a lier he had been poor when i gave him myself
- and now was rich through illegal means and such a temper
- he was a bootlegger and patner with the most corrupt man wolfshiem
- as he was talking i realized my foolishness
- what a stupid girl i was then
- to think there was something called love
- no its just the survival of the prettiest
- and i was going to endure the rest of my life
- with my rich cheat acting pretty and dum
- its all done now all my dreams of love
- so stupid and immature
- BOOM SCREECH HONK!!!!
- the confusion of it all
- i felt the impact and heard the screams
- but what just happened I'm in a haze
- guess now we know why ladies didn't drive
- i catch a glimpse of the ladys lifeless body
- before gatsby pried the wheel from my unresponsive hands
- as i drilled on the events of the day
- and gatsby kept whispering to who knows
- and when we had gotten home in the blood stained yellow car
- i had the perfect plan broiling in my mind
- gatsby patiently waited in the bushes
- but i was through with him
- when tom came home i fell at his feet
- as he accused my formal lover of the brutality of murder
- and i silently agreed
- even told him that we should move to avoid further disturbances
- and now in france i see a letter saying gatsby died
- but i turn my back to it whats past is past
- and though my hearts moaning
- now i know my place in the complex weave of life
