What it means
• Written by KingHavel
When I got into Uni, thought it was my intelligence
I just hunger for knowledge, the rest is irrelevent
but they never saw the curiosity and passion
they just thought I was a product of affirmative action
highschool caption "only black kid in the town"
"but he speaks so well so why his skin so brown?"
hey I pass it off just keep a smile on my face
rather laugh than be a stereotype of the race
Then I brace, for jokes on skin like onyx
they dismiss the culture but hooked on ebonics
Lye body bags would keep on runnin' they mouth
fly confederate flags but never been to the south
White dads not happy bout daughters with "the other"
wanna lash out but had to protect my little brother
from the prejudice that comes with a skin like mocha
let him know his achievements aren't because they filled a quota
you can like grape soda, and know that you have it all
even if you gotta explain that you don't play basketball
and at the mall watch lurkin' shopkeepers and cops
they can think what they want, but it don't mean that you stop
Tryna break out the box that you've been given
cause this is our life, and we gon' keep on livin'
