Presidential Reconstruction Era
The President Reconstruction by Abraham Lincoln or also
President Johnson it help the confederate states to rejoin the union
and it also helped former slaves get citizenship.
It also created laws and acts like the freedmen’s bureau
, Thirteenth Amendment ,Johnson’s Reconstruction, and the black codes.
These laws and acts were good and bad at the same time.
Some reason were that the south had to fill out
5 requirements to join back into the Union.
The south had to put the 13th amendment full time in their state
constitution, making slaves freedmen.
The U.S. made the freedmen’s bureau to help out former slaves,
it provided food, medical care, and schools for freedmen who were
desperate for an education. The worst part was the Black Codes
that were supposed to spell out the rights of freedmen, help planters
find workers to replace their slaves, and put freedmen at the bottom
of the social order. The forty acres and a mule. Forty acres and a mule
means that Congressmen Thaddeus Stevens called Congress to
break up the South’s Large Plantations and give every freed slave
“forty acres and a mule,” but however
Congress did not support Steven’s Plan.
One good thing about the thirteenth amendment is that it freed slaves in the U.S.A.
