In a Utopian Society

You can only have one family

A sister, a brother

A father, a mother

 

Anymore then that and your fam will be released

Which is actually code for your fam will be deceased

When you're released your sent to Elsewhere

Nobody knows for sure whats really out there

 

But enough about that lets talk about my good friend Jonas

In his Utopian society, the people couldn't see colors or feel pain

Life was about as uneventful as a big slow train

But Jonas began to see colors and the world wasn't so plain

 

The Giver opened up this world to him

He gave Jonas so many marvelous, malicious, and mind boggling memories

So Jonas decided he wanted to meet his worst enemies

Little did he know though, ones worst enemy is always themself

In the end it would be a battle of whether he could best himself

 

Jonas had a baby foster brother

His name was Gabe, short for Gabriel

He was born very small

Ya know mal nourished, underweight, and not very tall

 

Jonas learned to love Gabe like his own little brother

He would nurture and care for him

Jonas was almost his mother

Jonas began to notice something though

He and Gabe had matching personalities and pale eyes that glowed

 

Since Jonas had been chosen to be the next Giver

He had to take on memories that got bigger and bigger

This memories told stories of torture, triumph, and trial

But in the end it was these memories that gave Jonas the potential to gain knowledge mile by mile

 

He was introduced to sleds, hills, and snow at first

But after a while he met hunger, pain, and fear

Jonas stayed strong though

He washed away the tears until his vision was clear

 

In the end the suffering was rough

But Jonas wanted change and that's what was really tough

So he and the Giver came up with a plan

To run away in the night and explore the unknown vast span of land

 

But Jonas discovered that Gabe was to be released

He hadn't grown enough and his life value was at least

Plus there wasn't a family unit quite fit for his entity

Because in a Utopian Society

You can only have one family

A sister, a brother

A father, and a mother

 

So off Jonas went with a babe on his back

Just two brothers and an endless friendship pact

Moral of the story is that when we take things for granted they get taken away

And without all of those things we don't have anything to slay
