The Finish Line

• Written by Anonymous

I can see it in the distance
and it isn't too far.
I look behind, see everyone,
tryin' to catch me as I run
across the country towards the Sun.
I won't stop until it's done.
Because I started this, I
will not stop 'til it's finished.
I thought this out a while ago,
and now it's coming to a close.
Giving Emily a rose,
I'm not changing, I suppose.
Staying at the same pace,
I don't feel a need to rush.
Now hush...little baby
don't say a word.

Running through the tape and it
feels so good, nothing
better than doing something I
knew that I could. And I'm
grateful that I even got to
make this grueling journey, but the
outcome that I got from it is
everything I ever wanted.

I stopped, examined my sur-
roundings as I crossed that line.
I believed in myself and
that helped to create this moment,
this fragment chiseled in time,
the day I finally owned it,
where I reached all that I
wanted since the day I was born. I
can't believe I made it, mama.
Aren't you proud of me and what I've
done? Don't you love your son?
The feeling that I got is one that
I'll remember for a while,
capping off those million miles.
Stop...I look a-
round. Damn.

Running through the tape and it
feels so good, nothing
better than doing something I
knew that I could. And I'm
grateful that I even got to
make this grueling journey, but the
outcome that I got from it is
everything I ever wanted.

Running through the tape and it
feels so good, nothing
better than doing something I
knew that I could. And I'm
grateful that I even got to
make this grueling journey, but the
outcome that I got from it is
everything I ever wanted.
