Appreciate

I thought being on my own was tough, living in an apartment in philly
I used to look out my window in December, and think "Man that shit look
chilly".
Then I'd sit back and relax with the remote in my hand and a bowl of
crack-a-jacks
But I never realized the lives on the outside of my door, begging for a comfy
bed, not the floor.
You see, what we have we take for granted in our lives.
A home, a car, a husband, a wife.
There are people on the street begging for another chance at life.
But we walk on by don't even look them in the eye.
They are people too, you ain't nothing better.
They once had homes but now they living in shelters.
What kind of example are we giving to our kids
When we say "Be kind!"
But deep inside we don't mean it
I guarantee if I had a sign saying "Fuck the poor"
you'd all get in line to
Kick down my door and lecture me about how that is wrong and to respect
them.
But I guarantee if I had a sign saying "Help the poor"
You wouldn't bat an eye, Change your tune, come near my door.
Just like the charity workers on the street you ignore
(Spoken) I once saw a social experiment where a man asked strangers for
a small piece of their food. They said no. Guess who gave him some food.
Now, I ain't saying that EVERYBODY does this.
There is a small amount of the public.
That volunteer and do gods charity work.
Those are the people that I respect the most.
Who give up their time to give others hope.
In a world where there seems to be none.
After I'm done today you'll all go home
You may take something from me, you may take none but now, at least
you'll know how to
Appreciate.
Your Iphones, ipads, desktops and imacs, TV's, videogames, Clean
clothes on your back. Partners and relationships and petty
shit like netflix, DVD'S, movies and everything in between
Yeah you have it all.
Yeah You standing tall.
But remember those not as lucky that took the fall.
Please, Please just appreciate.
