The Lich King (Part 1)

Chapter 1

Our tale begins in The Forest of the Dead,
Seeping with sin, and a palpable sense of dread.\
Webs of silk and an eternal fire,
Trudging through silt, a once glorious empire.\
Their land she had taken without much question,
Slaughtered their families with next to no oppression.\
Her armies had risen from graves left unseen,
Making sense of her title, "The Necromancer Queen".\
Wielding dark magic with no second thoughts,
It was perceived as tragic to those in her plots.\
There was a tale once told of the things she had done,
Though it's risky to be caught mentioning it, even for fun.\
This magic she thought would afford her the modesty of an image,
Instead only brought death before the neighboring village.\
Pillaged and torn from their families in fright,
Most of them burned as they slept, the others soon died.\
She adorned their skulls around her castle in glee,
Like a child so ignorant of the gravity of the actuality of this decree.\

We best mention the beasts she had caged,
Within walls of steel cast in the blood of her mage.\
He betrayed her in Winter 1492, tried to poison her brew with the talon
Of newt, and he thought he succeeded,\
He went to sleep that evening thinking he would soon be king, and only
Hours later, for his life he pleaded.\
"Don't kill me miss, I had no hand in crafting that brew!"
He begged for his life while clenching tightly his shoe.\
"You will now serve me eternal for this betrayal! I will cast you in iron
And in my magic chain mail!"\
With a flick of her wrist and an explosion of blue,
The mage was destroyed covering the stone walls in a red hue.\
The Necromancer Queen, it had seemed, loved nobody in this life,
Strife was her partner, Misery was her knife.\
Although, she had loved before becoming so corrupt
The King of Elves would soon come and sober her up.\

The Kingdom now sought to expand it's crushing hand,
And the Queen had enough of outsiders coming to take her land.\
Danger would not drive this Queen to move, so she devised a plan,
It could not fail; she would swoon the King and all would be well.\
However, despite having spies all around, the Queen could not account
For the rumors surrounding the King. Was he coming to take her crown?\
King Taryn had people from Frostmount to Erdinger, Lithka and Ihmbee
Ready to fight for their King if need be.\
Reputation preceded the King as he stepped, never slept on,
Lest you not wake up without a dagger in your back.\
If the tales were as true as the Bard's claimed them to be,
No man had yet lived after challenging the King.\
Through ruthless division of resources and untouchable resolve,
Fruitless scouring for rations and a sense of absolve,\
The King and his men at last arrived at the Queen's Fortress,
Realizing again that they had so much more than just this.\
Her defenses stood with such pride and dexterity,
No volunteers could be chosen this time, a rarity.\
