Ah-la-la-la-la
Ah-la-la-la-la
I wrote this doc, back in the day
It said why I wanted to break away
It told him I'm not really looking for more mistakes
It told my homie Louie(s) that I needed help to clean our slate
He asked why should I help
I tell him what I've concurred
I reckon government shouldn't be like George, adjourned
So I spent my time, writing three natural rights
Rights that government should protect 'til the world turns blight
I waited for years until I hated the bad treatment
I'm tellin' that I feel very imprisoned
Maybe you could give us some independence
George, stop ignoring and give us sayin'
We'll be ruhbelling for our independence
George, if you really want us then you need to regret
I'm sayin'
Ah-la-la-la-la
Don't mess with my rights
Don't ever withhold
My right to delight
I need my freedom, today
Ah-la-la-la-la
Don't mess with my rights
Creator extolled
The life he bestowed
I need my freedom, today
Ah-la-la-la-la
For a couple years you
Don't want to hear us
We are forbidden to create laws with our own ideas
Before we could manage our own government much easier
Now we're begging you to let us write laws with our governors
Saying we need order
PAUSE
Never wants to yield, controlling our governors, that schemer
And he takes all of their money the same way
Firing them all, never letting them stay
And those people have their life and money all taken out
But if you put your head on straight and just figure it out
Why do you limit their terms from across the world, you grouch
Now you know why you're being defamed
Or are you still missing it now
Wish I'd have written it down
Wait I just wrote it now
PAUSE
How? George is confused about
He should figure it out while I'm sat here sayin'
Ah-la-la-la-la
Don't mess with my rights
Don't ever withhold
My right to delight
I need my freedom, today
Don't mess with my rights
Our creator extolled
The life he bestowed
I need my freedom, today
[Knock knock knock] on my cottage door
In comes a redcoat, not sure what for
They start shootin' people
Those crazy soldiers
No one wants them here, spreading lots of gore
We never wanted to be annexed
King, you didn't need to send them over here that's all
And we never became a big threat
Until you sent soldier-men to breach peace, of course
It's not like the colonies were eyesore
PAUSE
PAUSE
PAUSE
This is not the way to make you wanted
It's a bit too much, too late if I'm honest
All this time God knows I'm sayin'
Don't mess with my rights
Don't ever withhold
My right to delight
I need my freedom, today
Don't mess with my rights
Our creator extolled
The life he bestowed
I need my freedom, today
Don't mess with my rights
Don't ever withhold
My right to delight
I need my freedom, today
Don't mess with my rights
Our creator extolled
The life he bestowed
I need my freedom, today
