Measure for Measure

• Written by

Let me just say a few words
Couple couplets that she hasn't heard
As I try to learn my way
With this vocabulary
Kinda scary with all the different
Things to talk about, sometimes what I meant
Isn't what I said, see I tend to mean more
But before the road ends for sure on this score
Let me take a pen again and confess my love endures

I know this looks the same to everybody else
I know every book cover looks the same on every shelf
But I swear this is something else at least than I have ever felt
And I think she feels it too,
I don't know, something in the way she moves
I can rewrite these lines a thousand times and she'd smile
Twice as bright as the first time and say "Never mind
About the perfect meter, or rewinding the beat I'm
Just here to hear what you have to say
And no matter whether rap or prose I'd love you anyway."

Yes that's cliche and what we all know to be true
But I ask you, when you saw a rainbow as kid, one or two
Did you tell you mom just once or twice?
Like calling winners of a prize fight
You're proud to know and share it with the class
So you go and show and tell it fast before math is back.
Now this girl has shot across the sky
Repainted every cloud and corner in my eyes
There's something a kiss does unravels you like rope
Unplug reboot your vision, amplify it like a telescope
I hope this clarity remains cause I didn't understand
How much drug a loving hug contains
And though I often say it weak or incomplete
Although I say it weakly kicking out my feet
My girl has got my heart, she's a part of me
And when she's a part from me
The world starts to go grey around the edges
But she's here and she ain't leaving yes I'm selfish
But I want her with me forever
And it's starting to look as if
We just might get our wish and watch the weather
Live happily ever after
Measure for measure

Let me come back just one more around this beat
Set out running laps until star crossed lovers meet
Around the moon. Our destinies been set since we
Sprung from the womb Romeo and Juliet, see sadly
They end dead in the tomb but the sun comes gladly
With breakfast and tunes the teens moved too soon to see
True love come through but my heart beats for two deeply
And too sweetly does she look at me with those eyes and that smile
That turns the whole world around and around
Warm and happy like an antiquated sundial
Sun dancing on the grass the same feeling
As hearing her laugh and I'm still reeling
I can't be concealing that I carry this flame
And I'll bear barefaced and full smile forever
Yes I care and we share in the same race, same pace
Lace up your running shoes and sing this love song true
Sing it measure for measure
