CHALLENGER'S RAP

• red snakes fill the veins in my eyes
• persistent, without respite
• they watch me watching myself in the mirror
• their slithering coils taunt my conscience
• their venom circulates thru my mind
• turning my anger blind
• and my kindness is lost in a better time

• my heart bound in barbed wire
• fighting the tightening of the boa
• impossible to relax
• even the rising and falling of deep breathing
• drives the spikes further into the center of the pulse

• alone the desert, the walk to find water unknown
• a test to see
• if the creator wants me to live
• or if it is my time to depart
• i will not survive on my own
• i will die, i will die
• unless the hands of life
• reach out and take hold of my flickering soul

• a trick or the heart
• secrets of the mind
