Slow Process or No Progress?

You see a black kid at a private Catholic school

Back straight, eyes low, he wears khakis and polo shoes

He looks like the traditional white man's fool

What could he rap about, cuz I know he ain't cool.

Shut yo big fat crusty ignorant lips up and listen

Cuz the next line is about to make a transition.

 

He goes to school everyday with the intentions to shine

But every time he's there he feels he's wasting his time

But every time he's there he doesn't know why tryin

Cuz he notices that nobody will smile at him

Nobody is high-fiving or even saying hi to him

But thats alright cuz he's going to keep striving and grinding

Little does he know what they think when they walk by him

 

He's off to class now a bigger bounce in his stride

And Still there is now sign of love when he arrives

"But that is alright" he thinks cuz "I'm doin' fine"

But he sits alone in the back of the class trying to hide

And Nobody talks to him and nobody tries

Finally the bell rings and then he finally realizes

He's alone in this uphill climb (like Miley)

Even though she is rich, beautiful, and white

And Miley never worked a day in her life

 

A couple classes later the little kid is still all alone

At the end of the day he just wants to go home

His dad picks him up and asks why is he crying

He says cuz the other kids look at me like their blind

They look at me as if I don't exist, like I'm not their

They won't talk to me, they just stare as if they don't care

About my feelings, and my thoughts, they just stare

I feel like a monkey in a zoo and they called me that twice

I've heard the N-word more times today than you've heard in your life.

 

Later on in his life he graduates from Brown

He gets a great paying job and moves back to his hometown

He sees the people he grew up with, they have kids now

They still don't speak to him, No of them try to say hi

They all curse at him and they spit at him as they walk by

He wonders why he even tries, why is he wasting his time?
